Do you remember the days when an Impreza was a cheap, relatively unknown performance bargain? When it was a Q car? Don’t worry, it was ages ago. But for the now something interesting has happened:

Yes, that’s right, you will be able to buy a brand new WRX STI with 300bhp, 4WD, and all of the elastic trickery that has made past Impreza’s point to point road weapons from £28,995. Or 29k if you’re a normal person.
That puts it slap bang into Golf GTI and BMW 135i territory. It also makes the A45 look like a massive rip-off. Which it probably is. But then it has a enormous Mercedes badge slapped on its massive nose. So you were probably expecting that.
Anyway’s, Subaru are saying that the interior benefits from soft-touch materials ‘in key areas’ and is a ‘quantum leap’ over its predecessor. Which is what they always say. Until I actually get to sit in one, I can’t verify the validity of those statements.
Either way, I like Subaru’s, and you should too. Perhaps, they may just crack a decent everyday car that can actually be compared to something like a Golf. Perhaps…
